Bypass Filtration

Is anyone using an oil bypass filtration kit on their non diesel truck? Just looking for some helpful info.

I don't know of any running one on a gas setup personally Most of the ones I know of are on diesels where you see a bigger benefit keeping the oil clean and the soot level down. On a gas engine for the most part the benefit from what I understand is small. What specific information are you looking?

I have looked into these systems for my 5.3. They look like a good idea, not much info on how much good they do though. A lot of Subaru cars have these, but I believe only on cars with turbos.

They are air oil separators installed after the pcv valve. The theory is oil vapors and blow by will condense in the canister and not be run through the intake. Cleaner intake air = cleaner intake valves and, well, everything... potentially a very good upgrade for an AFM motor as oil quality directly affects the AFM system. Volkswagen 2.0s are notorious for having this issue. The intake manifold can plug up until the flow channels are about the diameter of a pencil. Talk about power robbing. Air oil separator kits run about $150. but you could make one at the parts store for around $20.

You're talking oil/air separators or oil catch cans. OP is talking about a pressurized oil bypass system. Two different animals

Looking to see whats out there. Found the Amsoil kits and also saw one from Racor in a 4X4 mag. I can't find much info as far as price and install on the Racor kits. I was thinking about going with the Amsoil single filter bypass kit. The install looks pretty easy. Is the oil pressure sending unit the same thing as an oil pressuer sensor? That would be used for the oil supply to the filter.

On the other hand the Racor kit seems to use a much bigger filter, but I think the price is much mor than Amsoil.

Not saying bypass kits are a bad thing but they are kinda overkill for our gas engines. You would be better off running a high quality synthetic glass media filter such as Amsoil, Royal Purple, Fram Ultra, Purolator Synthetic, or Napa Platinum. You might even be interested in Microgreen Filters, they have a small cintered filter element inside the spin on filter they make that acts just like a bypass filter set up.

Tom, you would tap into the sensor port with a "T" fitting to supply the filter with oil and then you can run the return line back into the top of the oil fill cap. If you are interested PM me your e-mail and I can send you more information. Here is one setup to see how it was done on a Dodge 3500.

Thats what I thought when I read the info on Amsoil kit. Just wanted to make sure that oil sending unit and oil pressure sensor were the same thing.

New to me. Help some of us understand what benefit this would bring to a gas engine. If you run a high-quality filter like above and higher grade synthetic oil, what is not working correctly that would justify installation of one of these kits? It stands to reason they would impact oil pressure in some way as compared to the stock design, no? I can buy a lot of filters for $400 plus install. What do the oil-heads over at Bob-Is-The-Oil-Guy have to say about them?

If your oil is getting so dirty that you need upgraded filter system... well...
