Delphi Vehicle Diagnostic Tool

Recommended Posts

I just purchased the Delphi Vehicle Diagnostic Tool and must say I am quite impressed.

Out here in Arizona we have scorching temperatures in the summer and the ability to start my 2008 Sierra from virtually anywhere is going to be a life saver. This is the main reason I purchased this device. It consists of an OBD-II module you plug into said port. It then connects to Verizon's 1G network which is almost everywhere. It then communicates to your smart phone over the cellular network. I can remotely start my Sierra while leaving a movie theater, restaurant, etc.

It also provide Geo tracking, engine codes, Geo fences and many other features.

The details

  • Price $250
  • Monthly $5 for 1g access to Verizon
  • I had to get rid of my unlimited plan and switch to a Share Everything Plan in order to activate. I know this will be a deal breaker for a lot of people but I am near wi-fi over 95% of the time these days. My data usage has gone from 4GB per month to .10GB per month as a result. YMMV.

Never knew they made such a thing. What is the 1g limit for? Does it act as a hot spot too?

It has very limited data needs so things like 4G are not necessary. 1G has a much broader range allowing you to track your vehicle virtually everywhere. Well, there are places in Arizona where I'm sure there is no coverage.

The documentation says nothing about being a hot spot.

BTW, I do not work for Verizon or Delphi.

Will it only start cars with remote start? Any mods to do so?

I pay for onstar in the winter to allow me to start my car now using my cell and there free app

That is neat. Can we get some pics of the device installed? I ask because it looks a bit bulky in photos and the port on our trucks is right at the edge of the knee bolster.

"It looks a bit bulky in photos"

I thought the same thing when I saw it in someone's hand as a reference.

There is an optional relocation kit which includes an extension cable, mount and zip ties.

My OBD-II port is directly below the steering column so I find it sits neatly out of the way.
