Exhaust Cut out

So when I first got my truck I wanted to make it loud but not all the time cuz I drive a lot of high way. I found these fancy electric cut outs... I feel like the cut out is causing a lot of back pressure when it is closed because the exhaust will go in there and get "trapped" so to speak. Does anyone know if this is true??

In theory it could cause a reversion of the exhaust stream, but I wouldn't think it would. I've never heard of these electric cutouts.

In theory, its kinda like the bubble in the bed of the truck that redirects the air over the tailgate. Basically, the way I understand it anyway, the air goes into the cutout and kinda causes a small circulating bubble that the rest of the exhaust flow will ride over to be redirected to the muffler.

But seriously though, isn't the whole concept of cutouts to run it through the muffler when you are in town, and not worried about performance? Then throw the switch, open it up, and cruise down the highway where you aren't worried about noise tickets. I suppose you might need to smoke a ricer at a redlight, but you are gonna do that with the exhaust open anyway right?

If you are gonna get some though, Ive heard really bad reviews on all those butterfly type ones. If I were gonna get some, Ide get the ones made by Dougs Headers.

I lije the idea of the cut outs. So I winter and such I don't drive the people next door crazy. Or any time you want to run quiet like long vaca trips!. I may look into the dougs ones!

I believe some manufacturers use them, except theirs is actuated by throttle rather than a switch.

Sorry, I guess I was relating the electric cut outs with GM's dual mode exhaust which instead of anything electronic, a vacuum opens up a butterfly valve and allows for a straight pipe mode which makes it louder basically. Used on the Corvettes and Camaros, could also be used on others but this is the little bit I know lol.
