cat question

I have an 04 2500HD with the 6.0 and california emissions. I've been having the flashing CEL with a PO300 code. I found that the front cat on the left front pipe is broken up inside just by tapping on it. I have a complete pipe from a non cal emissions in my shed. Now can I bolt that up in its place without any drastic performance changes and CEL coming on? (The flange on the cat that is on the truck is cracked, so I might as well use the whole pipe). Before I can continue to diagnose a potential misfire this needs to be fixed first. Yes I know it would be illegal, but I'm pretty sure a misfire caused the cat to fail initially, and I just don't have the $700 or so to drop on a new cat, just to have it ruined again. Thoughts?

I'm pretty certain your going to need that cat to work inorder to keep the light off. When I had my 2000, the pipe broke at the flange on the oem pipe. I replaced it with a cat/pipe from NAPA for about 1/2 the oem price. Light stayed out and passed smog checks.

Yeah that's what I figured. I may just weld in a cat. The walker # is 81724. Thanks for the response

The NAPA cat was a direct bolt on. At one time I put a Catco brand on a Jeep, the light stayed off but wouldn't pass smog cks.
