GMT900 OEM backup camera wiring

Recommended Posts

I just obtained an OEM rear backup camera pulled from a salvage 2012 Silverado, and would like to install this in my 2013 Sierra SLE, and use the rear view mirror monitor. I have looked everywhere for a diagram to identify the six wires that go into this unit.

I have red, yellow, white wires going to one connector, and grey, black, and tan wires in another bunch. I am also curious if this OEM Panasonic camera is a 6 volt unit like those in the Tundras. Has anyone tied these factory units into a RCA connector? My truck has the dark blue and white wires present at the existing onstar mirror. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the wiring diagrams.

I found this diagram, which shows a different routing:

The video positive is yellow on the camera harness side, and grey/dk blue on the chassis harness side.

The video negative is brown on the camera harness side, and grey orange on the chassis harness side.

The reverse wire feed is grey on the camera harness side, and light green on the chassis harness side.

The Ignition positive feed is red on the camera side, and pink on the chassis harness side.

The ground wire is black on both sides.

The shield wire is white on both sides.

What I find odd is that the camera is energized by two sources. The ignition positive, which is on when the key is on, and the reverse feed, which is energized when the truck is placed in reverse. Aftermarket cameras only get power when the vehicle is placed in reverse. Is this due to the fact that the reverse lights are illuminated when the vehicle is unlocked/locked with the key fob when it's dark out? Any thoughts on this?
