2011 2500HD - Seeking Advice for Dealing with Dealership

Recommended Posts

I have a 2500HD LTZ with Gasoline the Engine and an AT with around 10k miles. I bought it used in 2012 from a dealer and it came with their 3 year warranty.

The engine has what I am pretty sure to be rocker arm noise which can be heard loudest when the engine is cold and then the noise dissipates as the engine warms. Other than that it runs and drives excellent. I haven't established a dealership yet, but my worry is that once I take it in, a dealer will just Band-Aid the problem (which can be easily done) and not fix the underlying issue such as a bad lifter, bent push rod or worse.

So, I was hoping to get everyone's advice as to how to best address the issue to the dealer... or do you think most dealerships would want want to fix the problem correctly? I'd greatly appreciate your feedback.

My 09 6 liter hd did the same from day one. Gm told me to go to hell and it was "normal" like with anything else. Engine had a lifter implode at 60000 miles eating a cam lobe and they had to put an engine in it on warranty. Serves the retards right but oh well.

GeeZus, what a hassle. That's pretty much sums up my fear. Wouldn't a dealer WANT to fix it correctly for the "work?"

Depending on the Dealers Track Record, Where I live their is an internal GM representative at the Dealership Full Time.

I talk to him, not the dealership behind the drive threw. If your dealership has a representative ( find out) and all will be corrected the first time.

Most Dealerships love warranty work, it is fast clean money for them.

Good Luck

Hi Gov tech 4

I just thought, maybe he has a broken exhaust manifold bolt on the Drivers side ?

Ahh, good thought, I'll see if one of my local dealerships has a GM Rep that's there or comes in.

Eric, Thanks for the heads up; I took a look and they all appear to be good. I also looked for some possible exhaust leaks and didn't see where any exhaust had been leaking.

I'd have to swear it's a too much clearance on the rocker arm and the top of the valve... I remember adjusting a lot of valve's on my old long block builds and that sound is pretty unmistakable.

We all loved to adjust them before, but now there is too much kief in the way. ( German Word meaning shit basically)

Good Luck in getting it resolved and let them know your 2 cents. GM survey follows your visit will be so great they will get their Christmas Bonus !!!!

Isn't that the truth! It's almost difficult to actually even see the block anymore.

I'll let you know how this all turns out.

Oh god lol.... the ls engines are simpler to deal with than some carbed 80s smog heap with 100' of vacuum hose... You can't adjust the rockers. .. its not a 350. They are fixed and preload is set via the correct length pushrod. A couple plugs for the coil packs and you can pop off the valve cover if you want too. It's a lifter... its a gm truck lol. The LS7 lifters they use are about as much junk as the collapsible ones in the active fuel management engines.

You take off the coil packs and you have to replace the wire set. They Break !!!

Under Warranty had work done and the dealership wanted to charge me for the wires because they broke when they removed them.

Was nothing even to do with the wires thou.

Got the truck back with engine codes which I never had and didn't even take the keys from them.

The mechanic was honest and said I wont be charged after all.

Don't remove the plug wires then... and I must be magic because I have pulled a few sets without wrecking them... Ls engines are dirt simple.... period.

Last time I touched ANYTHING on my warrantied truck, they said I voided the warranty. As simple at this motor is, I'm not touching ANYTHING non consumable.

Lol... its sad you actually believe that garbage. Then just take it in and deal with them. Done. . Discussion over.
