2004 Silverado Hard Shift to 2nd

Hi Everyone,

I bought a 2004 Silverado 1500 crew cab 5.3L and ive noticed that it seems to be a little hard going into 2nd gear. Happens under any amount acceleration.

I was just wondering if this is normal for this model or not?

I drive it mostly highway 45 miles a day and don't notice anything else other then that. I avg about 19mpg right now doing 65-70.

Cheers!

If it happens on the first few shifts after a cold start, that's normal. However, if it happens all the time, the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) is the most likely culprit. It is easy to replace and is about 20 bucks. To replace it, just unbolt it from the drivers side of the throttle body by removing the two torx bits (you may need to remove the alternator if it is the big 145 amp one). Next, reinstall in reverse order and you are good to go.

Good Luck!!
