Double Drive shaft

I see that some of you are servce guys I need some help.....

I want to take my truck in and have the 2 pice unit changed out to the one piece......my question is,  I bought the truck used so really don't have point of refrence but it seems to have a bit of a shudder (I think) at take off....I just had the dealer replace a broke in half U joint (not sure how that happened) but I really don't want this double drive shaft to bite me in the azz a month after my warranty runs out in 6,000 miles which is a bit,  with under 100 miles of road total here!

Anyway how do I bring up the Service Bulliten on replacing them and having them get it done...My dealership is pretty good I never thought they would warranty a ujoint and they did, no questions asked?

Thanks guys

What kind of truck is yours?  Mine is a crewcab, and they replaced the driveshaft with a one-piece unit and it completly cured the launch shudder.

I gave the service Mgr the TSB number and we looked it up.  There was alot of mumbo jumbo as to which models it applied to.  He said he didn't think mine was one of them, but was willing to run a few codes from the TSB.  Walla!!!  My truck applied, and we immediatly ordered the new driveshaft...

Everything has been fine since...  :thumb:

Any way I would know if mine is covered by the TSB??? I have a 2002 GMC crew cab long box 6.0L 4x4.. Should I have it replaced??? What are the signs I should be looking for???

I thought the 2002 trucks were already a 1-piece drive shaft.  Climb under your truck and look.  My buddy at work has a trucks identical to mine but his is an '02 and it has the 1-piece drive shaft....  (and so does mine now...    )

Shaners, I have 2002 1500HD cc. with a 2-piece unit. Right now I don't seem to have a problem (only 4500 mi) but I'm interested in the service bulletin if anybody knows.

I think just the 2500HD's have the 1-piece unit for 2002.  A guy at work has an '02 1500HD shortbed and he has the 2-piece shaft.  He tried to get the one-piece installed but the dealer said it wouldn't fit.

I don't know if the reason is because it is a different length or not.  It may be a different length because I think that although the trannies are the same the transfer case is not because "autotrac" is not an option on the 2500HD's.  Also the 2500HD's may have a bigger frame.

Shaners... I've got a 2002 CrewCab, Long Bed with the two piece drive shaft on a 2500HD.  Maybe it's the length?  I would think it'd be tough to keep something that long 'true'.
