Service Air Bag

Yesterday, when I started the truck, "Service Air Bag" displayed on the cluster, and the red air bag light was on. I tried shutting the truck off and restarting it several times, but these messages remain. The truck only has 39k on her, and it was fine the other day. I did wash it over the weekend, but don't believe I did anything different that would've gotten water somewhere it shouldn't be. I'd imagine there's likely a code stored that should be scanned? Does anyone have anything I can easily check that may have caused this message?

My '08 Silverado did this to me. GM puts the control module under the driver or passenger seat (not %100 sure which one it was) They get wet and short out causing this problem. There was a recall out for certain trucks in certain areas at one point. They recall didnt quite reach to Saskatchewan, Canada at the time so I had a nice $600 bill from the dealer.

might be a faulty airbag sensor had that happen on my 07

I plan on taking it to my usual shop next week probably. It just cranks me that it happened out of the blue and I barely drive the truck. I wasn't sure if there was something that may have gotten wet or disconnected somehow. Dad's Buick(my daily driver since he passed) has the light on as I'm not going to drop the coin to get it squared away with the car being so old. Thanks for the help.

The front impact sensors are prone to cracking. Yours was probably cracked and got some water inside. I have the same issue on mine, it's pretty common on the NNBS.

Same thing happened to my 07 it was the right front impact sensor, If you have onstar just hit the onstar button and have them scan your truck they will give you the code then look it up on the net. get the part and fix it yourself it cost me about $75 instead of hundreds at the dealership. same happened with right rear speed sensor

anti lock brake message came on called onstar got the code got the part fixed it myself.

If you have OnStar they should be calling you inside the truck. Every time I turned the key they would call and ask if anything was ok. Got annoying until I could get it fixed.
