EcoDiesel vs EcoBoost vs GM 5.3 real world testing...

Wow, again, these tests are irrelevant. A diesel against a gas turbo and a n/a motor? Who would have guessed the diesel would outperform in mpgs............ oh well.

Again, I wouldn't trust the science of a test that can't get the same mileage in the Chevy and GMC. Should be the same.

How do we know that the problem is with the test? Maybe not all engines run exactly the same.... just saying.

Well, the design of the front end is quite different too...(aerodynamic)

It carries the lowest tow rating of them all (with the exception of the NA v6 engines that should not even be in the equation). And I always thought that with a diesel you get about the same mpg loaded or unloaded?? This thing is loosing more than 10mpg with a load. Which isn't that far off the competition being that they can tow a bigger load. I guess if you really are not going to use it to tow much it wins lol

I think the reason for the big mileage drop in the ecodiesel is that it's geared and tuned for mileage. If it was geared for towing I bet there wouldn't be such a big drop.

I'm a little suspicious of the whole chart when both the Denali and the 5.7L Dodge show better mileage numbers (+.5mpg & +1.5mpg respectively) with a payload compared to when empty.

It looks like with the Dodge, if you want to get to 20mpg just add another 3000lbs of payload to the 1000lbs they already have in there.
