Yes, Recon smoke tails and third. Quality is great, worth the upgrade.

I think most of the led pods are like 6k. Is a standard color.

do they light up a night ???? looks good

They light up when I turn them on since this eBay switches only have 3 prongs on the back, there's some with 4 and one of those is for a constant light on, like the bottom where the letters are, then when you turn it on the truck turns on

Finally got around to getting a set of LED back up lights. We live in the country with absolutely no driveway, yard, or street lighting. Between the dogs, cats, kids, their toys, and a 20' trailer I figured it might be a worth while investment. Heck the wife has more aux lighting on her Disco than most people on this forum have on their trucks - so I thought it was only fair that I got something to help out in the mornings when the coffee had not kicked in.

O'Reilly's in my area has started carrying Anzo LED's and the price wasn't completely outrageous so I picked up a pair of their 3X3 cubes. I've seen plenty of examples where folks have mounted reverse lights up under the bumper and thought it looked good. However, the way my luck runs I'd hit a piece of road FOD and kick it into the back of one of the LED's. I didn't really want to get into a lot of cutting and drilling so that nixed doing a flush mount bumper install which led me to the bumper foot wells. Like everyone else I quickly realized pulling the foot wells to drill mounting holes is a nightmare. However, after a hour of the gears in brain grinding and getting frustrated I finally realized that you can use the foot well mount screws to also mount the brackets for the LED cubes:

While it's not perfect the location is protected, they look reasonably decent in that location and there was no major modifications necessary. The only holes drilled were on the inner wall of the foot wells to pass the wiring through to the underside of the bumper. Even better the foot wells still retain their functionality.
I may be wrong, but I have not seen anyone else on the forum use the foot well mounting screws. Hopefully this might help those folks that want reverse lights in the bumper foot wells accomplish their goal without having to go through a partial bumper disassembly.
One thing I did do was add both a chrome fender washer and lock washer behind the head of the mounting screw. I don't trust those body screws/clips not to back out and the fender washer helps to make sure that the screw head sits level on the light bracket. Still have to connect the LED's to a power supply and put some grommets in the pass through holes, but we're on our way.

Super awesome write up, and this definitely made my life way easier! Can someone pm me the best way to run a switch for these so I can turn them on when people dive with their brights on?

Thanks again man!post-145243-147395427281_thumb.jpg

So I have a question about wiring up my reverse light pods along with a front light bar behind the grill. My plans are to order a three position round rocker switch to run both lights. Up would be for light bar only on, center off and have bottom for the reverse light pods only. I don't want to have the reverse lights tied into my tail lights only on the switch. Just making sure this is possible and if anybody had a wiring diagram for what I need?

I think this is possible with the switch you mention. You would just connect the power going out from the switch to each light, the top terminal to the bar and the bottom terminals on the switch for th one of the reverse.

    • I did the new thermostat after doing a 'flip' for a year. Runs as cool one way as the other in the summer but in the winter there is a bit of a floor. Yellow with the new 70 C thermostat. My data over the life of the unit to date. Still need more cooler. Anyway that floor helped both winter fuel economy and shift quality in the winter. I found it a good balance.
    • Evan Williams Bottled in Bond   So pouring the last of a bottle of Evan Williams Black label last night I set off the the state store for a refill only to be denied the by an empty shelf. Rats.    What the did have was a bottle of Evan Williams Bottled in Bond. 100 proof. Hum, a few bucks more but a known distiller. Lets have a swing at it. ( I have before )    Cracked it open and pour a serving over ice. Hum.... more heat, yes. More alcohol naturally. But the barreling not the proof brings the taste and this one came up short.    Oh is was familiar but the heat ran the barrel over like a Peterbilt runs over a squirrel. Could use a heavier toasting of the oak me thinks or perhaps a longer barreling. Who knows. But what I can say is ice or a water back isn't the answer. What kills one kills them both. Sad. It is a pleasant drink....if you have little to compare it to.
    • I've had exactly one set of Bridgestone. Lasted five year and 125,000 miles and had I known better 15oK would have been a cake walk. I would have bought a like set had they not tripled in price since the first set. I removed them at said mileage with 5/32" remaining in dead even wear all four. They were fuel efficient, quite, comfortable and predictable.    Early on I got a very good alignment checked at least once a year, sometimes twice; kept the tires properly inflated, balanced and rotated. And I've found that many a tire issue can be avoided with great maintenance practices. Lot's of tire dealers will do rotation and balance (simple) for free for as long as you own the tire they sold you so no excuse not to.    Bead prep, alloy integrity and stem health have a huge impact on inflation stability. There are more mountings done poorly that perfectly. Finding a good tire guy is gold and as important as finding a tire you like.    That 3X price increase now two sets of "other tires' later is starting look like a bargain.      Bad maintenance kills more tires than bad tires.
    • Atlas, you kill me As aggravating as a project like this can be you have been unable to hide your fascination with learning and using that angst against this beast like a Ninjitsu Master. It amuses you, admit it now.      BTW, love your writing style. 😉
    • I gotta say, I'm enjoying your narration. The troubles you've been having are amusing as you describe them. It's good to see that you're finally getting some satisfaction out the old beast though.
