If you are still making payments on the 06 keep it at least until its actually paid off. Here the magic number is 100000 km... which you surpassed about 28000 miles ago. Its an 06... its not worth a lot either way. I would drive it into the ground and enjoy not paying for something that constantly depreciates but that's your decision to make.

And if you actually read my post you would see I said you surpassed the 100000km(or 62000) mark by 28000 miles..... thus the value is irrelevant at 100000 miles or at your current 90000 miles.

I agree completely with Badass69. I have an '01 that has 170,000 miles on it. I've maintained the truck since new and I will drive it until it goes to the junk yard. It isn't worth much as far as blue book, but it's worth a million to me!!!!! I use mine for towing my 26 foot cabin cruiser and 27 foot enclosed atv hauler. It's been paid off for 7 years now and it's great not having any payments!!! I have a laugh at my buddy, he's one of those guys who has to have that new truck smell every 3 to 4 years and is always in "Car Debt"!!

Then you wait a "long" time to buy a new truck lol. I mean are you going upside down on your truck or will what you can get out of it pay it off. Things you need to ask.

 

Mind you I really have no interest in your finances so do what you like and not what we say.

Yes, and I appreciate all the feedback dont get me wrong. I also wanted feedback on what you guys though on how the valuse of my truck is now compared to after it turns over 100000 miles. Would it be beneficial to to a trade before then, or in your opinion, weather its 90K or 100K it doesnt matter much to be a deciding factor.

Honestly I don't think so. I know in our market here the difference between a truck at 148000 km or 160000 km (90000 or 100000 mile) is nothing. Even to me its meaningless. I actually bought my 03 with a shade over 100000 miles but comparably to others with lower mileage it had a new front end, new shocks, new tires, rebuilt 4L80E versus something with let's says 80000 miles but needing most of those things. I also stole it really price wise... but that's neither here nor there.

 

I wouldn't sweat the mileage myself.

SO if I am going to keep it, your saying i'll have to figure on doing most of that work within next 10000 miles? thats thousands of dollars of work....now i really need to think about this. I know I will eventually need to do the front end components, new shocks, hopefully not the tranny (had TC changed already).

Your probably right about the mileage, but the value has to go down after 100000. I do have a solid truck now, but I am just worried I will have to do some expensive repairs in the near future that I could be saving on a down payment for new.

 

I guess I need to hear from more guys like you that have had these 2002-2006 2500HD's with miles up to and over 100,000 miles and see the work that has been done to them. that would help out a lot.

I've had a few now. I dunno. Your inner tie rods and upper ball joints will be worn out first. Shocks are just natural to anything with that mileage. Wheel bearings up front will be next in line as I had play in the 03 and I also changed my 05s just over 100000 miles. Then cooler lines are leaking, brakes maybe are getting iffy but are probably okay. Rear axle seals could be starting to leak, the t case could be around the time when the pump rub wears through the case, etc.

 

Tranny honestly should be fine for a long time. Why my 03s started slipping that early I don't know. Probably cooked it pulling trailer or something I suppose.

 

You are at the point where a lot of people dump their trucks because of repair costs. I get my parts at just over retail cost and do all the work myself so its not as bad. Lifetime warranty upper control arms, lower ball joints, inner and outer tie rod ends, idler arm and bracket and pit man arm plus sway bat endlinks on my 04 cost me around $900. And then $80 for a wheel alignment. A shop would probably be what, 3 or 4 grand for all that. So I know what you mean.

My last 3-4 gm trucks were pretty good, so its about time I get a crap magnet.

 

That new Nissan titan with the little cummins 5.0 is lookin pretty good.

It's a 2006 and you still owe a long term? Sounds like you owe way more than it's worth. If this is the case you should stay with this truck and save your money.

agreed... if you still owe money on that i would hold on to it until you at least have it paid off. you dont want to try and go buy a brand new truck with little money to put down.. as for the value of your truck, whether it has 90k on it or 120k its not going to change the value that much..

 

if you do look for a new truck, test drive a diesel

I wouldn't be too concerned with the transmission going out.. It's pretty rare to hear of a 4L80 going tits up, let alone at a measly 100k. The one in my '03 (see sig) has over 130k HARD (Read: Abusive) miles on it and it's strong as ever. The best way I've found to do front end parts is wait until your local Advance Auto (they carry Moog by me) has a spend $.XX get $.XX off sale and buy what you can get discounts on. You know it'll be replaced eventually, why not spread the cost over a couple months? Shocks can be done under $300, tires will set you back ~$1000-$1500 depending what you buy, and by my best guess the front end parts (I accounted for all 4 tie rod ends, pitman arm, idler arm, and both wheel bearings) will be under a grand if you buy quality parts and do the work yourself.

 

IMO it's a no-brainer to keep the '06.

I'm going to end up using all of my darn tax refund money to A) fix my manifold bolt heads that broke off and replace the lot of them with new ARP studs, and B) replace front end parts. So I'm with ya. I say, if you can afford it, use your truck till the 2015s come out, sell it near december because they always have good year end sales on 14s and buy one then if you really like them.

You can actually order a 2015 HD now, with delivery in Jan/Feb 2014.

I my opinion I would keep the truck. If you want to know what type of hit you will take for an extra 10k miles on the truck go to nada.com and look it up. Your truck should not need a lot of stuff in the next 10-20k miles. That tranny should last for at least another 90k maybe less depending on your driving habits. We had an '03 2500hd at work "railroad" that was abused for 250k and only major repairs was tranny at 208k and transfer case at 190k. The truck weighed 10k all the time and was beat to hell. I would keep yours for another 60k and pay it off then trade it in for a new truck if that's what you want. I personally will never buy a brand new vehicle again. But you need to do what you feel is best. Good luck!
