Anymore updates? This is an awesome build and one of the few that can actually be called a "build", unlike some with just floor mats and a tint. Lol

And even though I'm not into drag racing I can really appreciate the dedication and quality. The pics of the cleaned up 6.0 block are very inspirational!

Thanks. I really take a lot of pride in every project I take on. Just makes it turn out that much nicer in the end.

No kidding I had to laugh at a couple "builds" if it came down to competition on an actual "build" this guy would take the cake. Hands down. This thread is golden.

I'll second that bud, this fella can build me a motor any day.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Like I said, I am really meticulous about everything. Probably more so than it's worth.

I'll have a few updates on the truck soon. Re-Working a new cold air intake set up this weekend and just got tracking info on my new pinion shims caltracs that should be here this week.

I took the truck out to the track a couple weeks ago and had terrible traction issues. The pinion angle was far from ideal, so along with new shims and caltracs that should definitely help me out.

More pics to come.

Another update. Cold air intake set up is finished up and working. IAT's are actually 30* lower than the modified factory air box set up I was running.

Still using the Spectre intake tube from a 9900 CAI kit along with two 45* bends and a Spectre HPR filter and velocity stack. I tig'd the two 45's up after getting everything mocked into place. Then made a bracket to hold the tube just about the filter and got it painted up.

Still may work on another heat shield to see if it helps any.

Also got my Cal-Tracs and pinion shims in. Just trying to find time to get them installed.

Heat sheilding the intake tube wouldn't hurt, hopefully you don't care about how it'll end up looking.

Do you have more intake pics? How low to the ground is the filter? I thought a tube like this would be cool, but the factory intake pulls from higher up than any CAI I've ever seen. It's not like I ever ford anything deeper than a foot but still.

I'm going to just leave the tube painted silver. After looking over my logs from Fontana yesterday my IAT's are pretty good. haven't got the other heat shields in yet.

I'll get some more pics later on. The filter isn't too low. It's about 2 inches lower than the factory air box plate. If you ever had to deal with any deep water, even less than a foot, I don't think I would go this route. Just to be on the safe side. I went with this set up because this truck won't ever see any off road duty.

Finally got some time to update this thread:

Got the caltracs installed and finally made it out to Fontana Drag strip back on April 5th.

Great day out at the track. beautiful weather and not too many people. Very happy with the way the truck performed. It definitely has more in it. Just ran all motor this time. Nitrous passes will come next after the fuel pump install.

Found some issues with the tune and was able to fix most of them. I was also having issues with my innovate wideband. Going to be swapping the sensor and doing another free-air calibration to see if that fixes the problem.

Junior (Travieso) and Aaron (Bad AssSilvy) were also there.

Here's some pics of the track day:

Best pass of the day, 12.7 to Juniors 12.9.

Nice. If I had a second vehicle I could do more to my truck.

I know what you mean. Until I got my Sierra I couldn't do too much to my Silverado because it was the daily driver and wasn't very practical.

I drive my truck from Bakersfield to Fresno and back every Thursday

. I love this truck!!! 12.7 all fuel is FAST!!!! What you think with spray?

Intake is badass BTW, gonna paint it add some bling? Or wrap it? Wrapping it would look cool too!

Haha thanks man. The truck should run a 12.4-12.5 on the motor with the tune dialed. I'd be happy with a 11.50 pass on the bottle with a 100 shot.

The intake isn't bare aluminum. It's actually painted with silver engine enamel. I'm not really having an issue with heat soak so I'm going to leave it like this for a while.

    • We drove about 15 minute east today to visit a friend and saw a steep increase in price in the same county. About 50 cents a gallon steepper.
    • Sure about that? A degree wheel and a dial indicator would lower your degree of assurance in that statement. 😉    It why we have offset keys and dialable timing sprockets. Just say'n.... I've built a few and have never seen one "On the money".
    • I will admit I haven't experimented much with pressure drops beyond the numbers I put in and part of that is that the numbers I used are fairly low and then found out it would trigger regardless at that 35 psi. Having said that I had tried before had changed the placard pressures and being that I have a 1 ton set to 80 on the placard for the rear I believe it triggered close to 60, the front I don't recall now for sure but thought maybe it could get close to 45 from that factory 60 placard pressure. So I never did figure out if it was a number of psi from placard pressure to the alarm or a percentage of the total placard number as some figured it was like a 25% drop from placard pressure would trigger it. So as to try and answer your question, I believe I set the placard pressure on the front to 47 or so and while I run the front tires at 40, they have dipped below that some if its colder and I haven't put "winter air" in yet and never once have had the front alarm go off. I would say that the answer your looking for is no, that if you set your placard pressure to 45, you have a certain amount of room to drop below that pressure before the alarm will go off.    The pressures you decide to run in your truck, that ends up being what makes sense to you based on what your carrying in your truck or if towing, then have to bump them back up to something that will carry the load in the rear and the fronts typically left at the same pressure. It all comes down to that chart I put the link to and using an accurate roadside scale to be your guide, both unloaded and then loaded to know your minimum safe pressures.    I just wish GM would allow a person to change the readings for the tire pressures to the English system of pounds as I have to look at that goofy metric reading that will never ever jive in my head and will go over and change it just to figure out what they are if need be and then change it back.
    • That part I understand, that the dealer can do it. But I'm not understanding why updates that were available to the truck since it left the factory, or the dealership originally, would not still be available to it without dealer intervention.   I'm thinking along the lines of recalls. They stay available until they are completed, regardless of whether they are in warranty or not, or in the hands of the original owner or not. Why not updates as well, especially since some of those can be safety related also?
    • That's good to know, but I don't think I'll even be running them under 45 in the rear  unless it's on the sand or something but will only be for a short distance anyways!    I didn't read all the instructions in the booklet yet, but do you know let's say I set the rear psi on the placard to 45, will the warning light come on soon as it drops under 45 or is there a percentage it has to drop from the set value before the warning light is triggered?
