They screwed the tune on my LQ9. After they did the engine swap there was a lot of fit and finish stuff I had to do because I wasnt to happy about they way things looked.

I Sorry to hear that. I've seen some of their work come in to our shop. Most of it pretty good. Some not so much. Missing bolts, sloppy, dirty parts etc.

Hell of a thread so far! Looks like you do some killer work.

Thanks! I try to keep things as clean as possible. Super picky as you can tell.

nice work, cant wait to see more

Thanks, I'm sure there will be more coming. It never ends lol

I was talking to our one poster tonight. He was asking details because we have a group thing we do every Saturday night. Plus he is spraying my liner on this Saturday coming I believe.

But about Cal Speed, the proce I payed was about right, but I expected more out of a so called reputable shop even though I wasnt dumping 12 grand into a 408 with an F1 hanging off the front. Yours makes mine look like nothing special. But my focus has shifted

I want to do something like this with my truck but keep it at a stock height and in my budget so I can go race down my local drag strip

Great work by the way I love it when a truck like that gets built how much horsepower are you aiming for

This is a killer thread!!! Awesome job, real true backyard "gearheadmanship" at its finest!!! I wanna see some vids of this thing run! What is your weight/trap speeds in 1/4?

Thanks, Keeping it on a budget is really the way to go. I did do a ton of work to this truck lately but I'm still on my tight budget.

I dyno'd the truck at school with the 4l60e and no nitrous and it put down 360/370. I'm not convinced the dyno was too accurate. With the truck's weight and my times I should be putting down closer to 400+. Now that I have the 4L80e in it, I'm going to try and squeeze a little more out of it.

Thanks! I really try to do the best I can with what I have to work with. I'll get some video's up now of the old set up. Gotta wait til the track opens back up after the new year. The truck weighs 4230lbs. No 1/4 times yet, just 1/8's.

400 at the wheels? But my int/cat-back/tuned LQ9 put 325 to the tire

That truck is light. Mine is 5400 lbs in street trim, 1/4 tank, and myself

Really Chris? That's weird, mine weighed 5400 before the heavier tires. I'm 4x4 and have the hunka steel.

Steve, I can't get over how meticulous you are with everything. Looks awesome.

Man that's light, yes I seen a few of your times. It must be hard for you to hook up...gonna try batteries/rad in the back? Ya with those mods I would say you should be closer to 400, for those times you posted what gearing are you running?

400hp but I bet she hits peak torque a lot lower...

Well it is only a RCSB. I have the spare tire and hitch removed so traction is an issue. I have plans to move the battery behind the rear bumper at some point. Going to start playing with suspension and drive line tuning here shortly. Now with the new intake, headers and trans/converter it will be a while before I can get the truck dialed in. I've just been so busy with other side jobs and family stuff these last few weeks that I haven't been able to do much to it. Now with the new year will probably come more changes here and there. Just trying to get my priories taken care of first.

Here are a few track vid's:

Anymore updates? This is an awesome build and one of the few that can actually be called a "build", unlike some with just floor mats and a tint. Lol

And even though I'm not into drag racing I can really appreciate the dedication and quality. The pics of the cleaned up 6.0 block are very inspirational!

No kidding I had to laugh at a couple "builds" if it came down to competition on an actual "build" this guy would take the cake. Hands down. This thread is golden.

    • Common Sense Assembly   Your driveline is forgiving of the occasional mistake. It will even often forgive the random serious blunder. But it will not forgive a continuous bad habit.      What? Not everything needs to be a five thousand word essay.
    • We drove about 15 minute east today to visit a friend and saw a steep increase in price in the same county. About 50 cents a gallon steepper.
    • Sure about that? A degree wheel and a dial indicator would lower your degree of assurance in that statement. 😉    It why we have offset keys and dialable timing sprockets. Just say'n.... I've built a few and have never seen one "On the money".
    • I will admit I haven't experimented much with pressure drops beyond the numbers I put in and part of that is that the numbers I used are fairly low and then found out it would trigger regardless at that 35 psi. Having said that I had tried before had changed the placard pressures and being that I have a 1 ton set to 80 on the placard for the rear I believe it triggered close to 60, the front I don't recall now for sure but thought maybe it could get close to 45 from that factory 60 placard pressure. So I never did figure out if it was a number of psi from placard pressure to the alarm or a percentage of the total placard number as some figured it was like a 25% drop from placard pressure would trigger it. So as to try and answer your question, I believe I set the placard pressure on the front to 47 or so and while I run the front tires at 40, they have dipped below that some if its colder and I haven't put "winter air" in yet and never once have had the front alarm go off. I would say that the answer your looking for is no, that if you set your placard pressure to 45, you have a certain amount of room to drop below that pressure before the alarm will go off.    The pressures you decide to run in your truck, that ends up being what makes sense to you based on what your carrying in your truck or if towing, then have to bump them back up to something that will carry the load in the rear and the fronts typically left at the same pressure. It all comes down to that chart I put the link to and using an accurate roadside scale to be your guide, both unloaded and then loaded to know your minimum safe pressures.    I just wish GM would allow a person to change the readings for the tire pressures to the English system of pounds as I have to look at that goofy metric reading that will never ever jive in my head and will go over and change it just to figure out what they are if need be and then change it back.
    • That part I understand, that the dealer can do it. But I'm not understanding why updates that were available to the truck since it left the factory, or the dealership originally, would not still be available to it without dealer intervention.   I'm thinking along the lines of recalls. They stay available until they are completed, regardless of whether they are in warranty or not, or in the hands of the original owner or not. Why not updates as well, especially since some of those can be safety related also?
