GMT900 rear drum/shoe resistance?

How much resistance should there be on the rear shoes when turning them by hand? Should they make one revolution, two or just half? I though I saw somewhere it should just make one full revolution. I assume you would use moderate force when spinning them.

 

I think I need to readjust mine and want to make sure I have the correct initial resistance since they will self adjust some later.

 

When I first put them on I adjusted them to where the drum slid over the shoes fairly easy but that might have been too loose. I'm getting the slow stop squeal that the rear drums are known for.

It should take a MODERATE amount of force to put the drums on back over the shoes. They shouldn't just slide on and off easily, that would be to loose. Also they shouldn't be to tight where you have to beat on them to get them to go back on, that's to tight.

 

If you really wanna be anal about it get yourself a brake drum caliper. You cant mess it up with one of these.

I tried one of those when I first put them on and it was useless. I measured the inside of the drum and then flipped it and adjusted the shoes and the drum wouldn't even fit over the shoes so something was not right with the tool.

 

I did find a service manual and it said to tighten the starwheel until you can barely spin the wheel by hand and then back off the adjusted 20 clicks. Sounds easy enough but I don't know how I'm going to go if I back it off 20 clicks because I can barely see inside the access hole muchless with a screwdriver in there too.
