cap or no cap

I currently have a Bak retractable cover on truck. It is okay but overall wish I did not get it for a number of reasons. I was looking on Craigslist and saw a really nice ARE raised truck cap that would fit and match my truck perfectly. I like the idea of a cap for when camping and travelling but I like the idea of a open bed for many other reasons. My question is those who have a cap do you like it and would you get one again? Is it not worth being able to stand up in bed of truck and also have to crawl in to get something from front? Also are they a pain to take on and off so much that once it is on not worth to take off? Thanks for feedback/

I have the ARE Z series cap , its nice clean lines and fits very good. I'm planning on using 4 steel fence posts into the ground with crossbars so I can just back up between them and lift it up just a bit on the cap and slide a 2X4 under the cap to support it on the crossbars then drive out . 2 people can get the cap off but its way better with 4 , with 2 its a balancing act

I carry a lot of tools so I pretty much need a cap. I have a cab height Leer and it does the job and is water tight. The new beds have so many holes in them that dust can be a problem but the bed seal kits help quite a bit.

I've had caps on 4 different trucks now and I think I have only removed one on two different occasions. I find it just too much of a pain to take one off and can usually find another way to haul something that I can't get in the topper.

You can save quite a bit buying a used one and there's not much that can go wrong with them.

That's pretty much a personal choice. Like shoes, one size doesn't fit all. I put a SnugTop on my 2006 GMC Sierra Xcab three tears ago and would not be without it. here in the Pacific Northwet it makes the truck much more usable, keeping stuff out of the rain. I transport my tools and personal stuff to my fiancée's house every week or so and it's too much of stuff I just can't put in the cab.

I picked the SnugTop after a lot of research and looking, mainly due to its mechanicals, rear window latch and hinges, etc. Also they had the Sportsman's option, which is extra fiberglass in the top and corners and thicker top honeycomb. Also they have a proprietary integral clamping system so no big ugly C-clamps. If you can afford it, spend the extra money for the fold-down front window, much better for cleaning, etc. In three years I have had zero issues, no leaks, no rattles, nothing.
