Mylink question

I just bought a 2014 silverado with mylink.

I have seen online camaros and other vehicles that have mylink and have been uploading photos as their background and being able to watch videos via USB drive . I added some photos to my jump drive and tried and it said nothing was found . To me it seems like it's only searching for music or something. Can someone let me know if my truck is simply not compatible or am I doing something wrong ?

Chevy has manuals available for the MyLink system online and I assume you should've gotten a copy when you bought the truck. A quick read through the manual does not show any way to do this for either the 4.2" or 8" systems. The Camaro likely has a different version.

I will try one in mp4.

Yes I for sure have seen camaros on youtube who have set custom background pictures to their screen. Would be neat if mine could as well. Especially since the 4 themes are ugly.

Re-read my post. It does not matter what you've seen on a Camaro. The manual for the MyLink system says it applies to the pickups and the new Impala. It is likely a different unit than the Camaro.

Yes I can read dude.

Your telling me no, and someone else here said mp4 will work.. What part of that did you not comprehend ?

And all I said about camaros is that I have seen clips on YouTube . I didn't say they were the same system.

The manual says nothing of using a custom background so chances are it isn't happening. As for video, pretty sure folks here have done something with it, I do know the truck has to be in park to satisfy the safety nannies.

I will agree that it might not be happening on these trucks but on camaros it certainly is . YouTube it lol . They are using mylink

There is more than one version of MyLink. What Camaro owners or Sonic owners or Malibu owners can do is irrelevant. They are different than what GM has put in the pickups.

Yes I am aware of that but what they can do is not irrelevant. If I was comparing my mylink to a ford focus that would be irrelevant . Comparing oranges with oranges is totally relevant. Anyway thanks , nice to know I paid 42k for a truck with a 8" screen that displays my damn radio stations on it .

So i got an email from chevrolet today telling me to check out mylink.. and there is a icon in the picture that says video? along with a weather app? Mine does not do this and ive been through every menu option on the thing..

Just purchased 2014 Silverado, thought it would be nice to be able to show customers on job sites pictures of previous projects on the mylink display using the thumbdrive. A lot better than looking at a little phone display. Since I could do this on our brand new 2014 Cruze (third of the price, compared to the truck), as long as they were 640x480, it should be a piece of cake. NO SUCH LUCK. It does not recognize jpeg's.........really??? What the ...................

Did try a flash drive with a mp4 video, and that worked ok. Why the difference between the two systems. Anyone know a work around to view pictures??

I have downloaded movies and music videos to a flash drive. Like someone else said, use the mp4 format. You Tube has some very current movies, but the close caption is usually in some foreign language and I can't figure out how to remove it. It works great if I am waiting on the wife at the mall or elsewhere. I just watch a movie. :D
