I'm looking to cheat a little more torque out of my 2002 2500hd silverado (4.10) but have read a lot of mixed mixed reviews on the the 3.73 would it be worth it to re gear it?? And I know towing plays a role in it too, I just need a little advice.

going from a 4.10 to a 3.73 will give you LESS tq. Go to a 4.56 if you want more. or a 4.88 if you want a sh!t ton more. mileage will suffer though. unless you have bigger tires than stock, i wouldn't recommend going over a 4.10. if you have 33s or 35s, go to a 4.56 IMO.

I have a 2004 Sierra HD with the 3.73 and my dad has a 2001 Silverado HD with the 4.10. Same power train. Not towing, the difference is about 1-2 mpg. Not much. The 4.10 gives you a bit better take off under load. I got the 3.73 thinking it would be a bit faster top end and get much better fuel mileage but to be honest, I really haven't noticed a huge difference. They both seem to drive the same on the highway without a load. My dad's truck seems to get up the grades a little easier with a 9700 lb fifth wheel than mine.
