Im thinking of going with some good hid lights on my 2008 sierra . i was wondering has anyone done this on the low beams using the factory halogen light assembly. Do the hid bulbs have a shield on them to keep the glare down or do you use some after market projector housings. Every hid light I've installed were in projector housings so this the reason for asking. Jesse

Theres lots of posts about this. You are going to find a lot of positive feedback about doing this and a lot of negative feedback. Personally i have found if you go with a cheap $45-60 ebay kit or even DDM tuning kit (ive owned 4 of them) you will waste your money. Get irritated , and find them very unreliable.

My last truck and this truck i went with a Xenondepot kit from KBCARSTUFF.com

I highly recommend this kit as it has the harness going directly to the battery , the correct connectors where you dont have to worry about universal ones like ebay.

I would recommend the 6000k for the kelvin level, I got the 4300 on my old truck, and as it was bright , I prefer the contrast to really define the road better.

Now, when putting these lights in your stock housing you will have some light spread that leaks. You will have to adjust your headlights down a couple turns. I have never been flashed for people thinking my high beams are on.

Heres a teaser pic showing my lows, LED 20" light bar in center, and dual Rigid LED 's to the side . You can se how the color of the lows match the leds which is what i was shooting for.

And just for the record i do not run my leds with people coming at me at night... If i am alone they are on, but they would surely blind someone and cause an accident i kept them on in oncoming traffic.

Those are bright. I have used the cheap eBay kit once and i learned all i needed to know about those. I have used ddm along with others but recently used a bunch of kensun kits. The price has been great customer service good and a descent kit. I've tried calling them about this and cannot get through by phone or email not sure what's going on. Ive heard that some of the best kits have a shroud of some kind around the bulb so it helps tame the glare when used in a stock halogen assembly that does not use a projector in them. Not sure how good that would work but it has to help compared to one without the shroud. I've always stayed at 5k up to 6k at the max . It varys from co to co on the color ratings but as long as it's bright white maybe with a hint of blue just a hint then that's fine. Thanks Jesse
