Ran over a Parking Stop (curb)

Today driving through a parking lot I ran right over (right front, right rear wheel) a parking stop. You know, one of those semi-hexagonal concrete block things. I was going about 25 mph or so. No noticeable drivability damage...do we think it's okay? How easy is it to kill an alignment on these trucks?

A speed bump at 25 is one thing, but a "parking stop"? Those things are about 6" tall and not tapered like a speed bump and they are designed to STOP you, not slow you down. I would definitely be worried, but I wouldn't automatically take it in for an alignment unless I noticed a problem. I would definitely want to crawl under it and check it over visually. And I would also continue to monitor for excessive or abnormal tire wear. If I noticed anything that concerned me, then I would take it in. That must have been a pretty good shock. Did you hit your head on the ceiling? Did look around to see if anyone saw you do it?

I got cut off, and ran up a curb about the same size, at about the same speed.....bent the rear frame.

Yeah, I'm going to crawl under it this weekend. It was actually less jarring than you would think. Startled the mess out of me though! I might run it up to a decent shop nearby tomorrow to get the ball joints looked at. Talk about embarrassed...

Better to get it checked before chewing up the tires. In my case, I saw the guy coming, and drove up the curbing....didn't think it hit that hard at all, but they could barely get the truck in alignment.....that's when I brought it to a frame shop with Lasers and they found it bent.....total cost to get-r- done was $1,500

Had it checked out on Friday by a good local shop. All was well. As was eluded to, it was a good peace of mind thing if nothing else. Nice to know the truck could handle it!

Yah, your wifes Impala might not have fared so well.

I wouldnt worry too much, I cant tell you how many times I have bounced off the ceiling of these trucks doing dumb stuff, they take ALOT to break, engineered well IMO. Been a couple feet off the ground at 40 MPH and landed on the front wheels mainly a time or two (bad for stuff, I know) but broke nothing. When stuff does break it gets some nice upgrades tho :) It's a truck after all, you didn't pay 35K for a Prius!!!! Any other good stories?

Good news. When I hit mine, it was like "pulling off the side of the road"....just at 25-30mph, and over a 6 inch curbing.....wasn't what I would consider a hard hit by any means, at least not enough to bend the frame. Maybe mine was bent from the get go, but when the truck was on the frame machine, you can actually see where it was bent....the frame shop even compared the area of the bend with a new truck from the dealership (they work hand in hand).

Lateral force versus vertical force, and how much of each it's designed to take. Start from the tires and think up.
