JRs Custom Auto vs 4 wheel Parts

So today i went to JRs Custom Auto in Irving, Texas, JR'S Custom Auto and they said that for a 4" suspension lift for my 03 Z71 tahoe it would run about $2400, and that a 6" pro-comp suspension lift would run about $3800, neither one of these prices included anything more but the basic kit and a 3 year warranty

So then after my engagement with JR's I called up 4 Wheel Parts, in Plano, Texas, they said that a 6" pro-comp suspension lift would be about $1720 with installation untill the end of Feb.

So what's the deal??? Is JR's just really over priced, or do they offer better quality installation. Is there something about 4 Wheel Parts that allows them to charge less???

Please give any opinions......Thanks

4 Wheel Parts pushes Pro Comp like none other. Most likely they are PC's main distributor and get better prices than anyone else but the quotes you gave from the other shop are outrageous.

I had a 4WP shop in Houston install the BDS lift on my Z and I will say that they did good work but they will also look for other places to charge you.For instance, they tried telling me my idler arm was bad when it in fact had less than 5000 miles on it.I had to go back up there and explain to them how an idler arm in bad shape would act and it so happened they had a Z71 there at the same time.Upon inspection they realized what I was saying because the other idler arm had as much "play" in it as mine.

Just watch yourself and let them know you are aware of what you're talking about and all will be OK.

That price is amazingly low, go in and get it installed ASAP

4 wheep parts OWNS procomp. that is why that price is what it is. also, right now they have a special, buy any procomp kit and get mx-6 shocks and install free. this is a hard deal to pass up.

that doesn't explain how they sell rancho lifts for cheaper!  What kind of lift do I have?

Dang dude $3800 is #### expensive.  Their kit must be lined in gold or something, especially considering it's only 4".

Heard good stuff about pro-comp, if it weren't for RCD I woulda opted for pro-comp.  Only reason 4wd Perf pushes pro-comp so much is cuz they part own that company.  But it works to your advantage.  $1720 for 6" lift plus the free shock upgrade is a #### good deal, you get another 2" so you can stuff some 35s under yer pig.

Yeah 4Wparts had buy 3 get 1 free ProComp tires. I online ordered a set of ProComp 305/70/16 mud terrains for around $600 to my door.

I told some of you all this before, but when I went to put them on Discount Tire told me "they suck" and, "of course its buy 3 get one free, they have to give them away they suck so bad. they won't balance, you'll be bouncing all over the road", etc.

Well they can kiss my a$$ because I had already bought them and they put them on and they balanced to "0" on all 4 and ride smooth as my stock tires! Yes a little more noise, but not bad at all. I would recommend them highly!! The BFG mud terrains were $400 more at that shop. So Of course he wanted me to get those. I've had them all BFG, super swamper, Gateway, goodyear, etc  and these ProComp tires are awesome!!

So unless I got the only good set, those guys were full of it.

About the "extra work":

Sometimes I've run into the extra charges at 4Wparts. A few years ago I took my old 90 blazer in for an auburn unit and new gears, and almost got talked into 2 new axles and lots of "extra" charges and supplies. And got a list of "in house parts" charges that I had to go through one by one and have them show me where they were on my truck. (they weren't is the point) I brought them the gears, auburn unit and a complete gear install kit. When I got home both axle seals were leaking. Took it back and the installer said to me, "why did you half a$$ the install and not want new seals" But I brought them a complete kit that had seals in it and they were sitting on the bench!  Then He pulled the axles and noticed some bearing wear on one. So I went to dealer and got new axle. (Can't find 90 blazer axles in junk yards and couldn't wait for an aftermarket) Then the installer told me that the new bearings have a repair kit built in to offset the bearing and not touch the worn spot.(which is true) So I returned the axle. They wanted to charge me $40 to put in the axle bearing (which I paid because it was bad). And another $40 to replace the axle seals because they don't normally do it on a rear end job!? I refused to pay that because you have to take the seal out anyways to replace the bearing!!#!@% I was a long day.  SO YES KEEP AN EYE ON WHAT IS ON YOUR BILL AND EXACTLY WHAT IS BEING DONE. Get any old parts back! I don't think it was my installer, but somewhere between there and the sales ticket things got squirrely.

Sorry to ramble again........

Pro-comp is a sister company of 4wp's. Also Pro-comp comes with a lifetime warranty, Why would you need a 3 year warranty on the lift? I got my lift for $1,500 and $250 for the guard.
