Interior squeak, behind IP?

Well I have had the lifters replaced and two exhaust systems and mine is squeaking again. Same thing as you going from V4-V8 and to top it off I can no longer get over 18 mpg highway. It starts off very random then build up to much more pronounced and time goes by. Usually takes a few thousand miles or so to get it in full force. When was your truck manufactured?

How would I find that?

I think there is a sticker on the driver door on in the glove box. Could also be listed in the window sticker if you still have that. I heard that the first run trucks had this issue. I run alot of miles and therefore probably have experienced the cascade issues because my driving caught up to them before they could figure it out.

I bought mine in August and has 17k on it. Still has the issue and needs to back for the 4th time to fix.

Just curious if others have this issue were early production with over 5k miles. And of the later run models also have the issue.

Is there a specific fault that they are reporting with respect to your lifters? As in are they advising you of how they are failing?

from what I gather the issue is exhaust related. The replacement of the lifters and such was a recommendation by GM but did not fix the problem. So they placed on a new exhaust system. Problem gone for a few months then came back. I am not so confident.

Late march I gave them the vehicle to fix, two weeks later they said the parts that were for the truck were both damaged upon arrival. So they gave it back to me un-fixed. I drive it off the lot and the issue is gone, fast forward two weeks and the issue is back again. Maybe them pulling off the exhaust in anticipation to replace it allowed it to last another few weeks without squeaking. So I am not so confident its the exhaust. Who knows.

It seems that the 4 cylinder flapper on your exhaust is failing much like mine has. You get a squeak, and I get a rattle when the truck is cold.

I'm dropping my truck off in the next half hour for the replacement muffler assembly, so it will be interesting to see what I get.

I find it odd that you say your economy has suffered. My mileage is around 10mpg at the moment. It was up around 18mpg in the city.

The drop in mileage seems to correlate with the 'overheated exhaust' ECM/TCM flash.

Sorry, I might have been mis leading. I am not sure if the lowered fuel economy is directly related to the baffle noise. You may very well be right in regards to the update to the firmware. several things have been done recently to it, I just know its gotten worse from when purchased.

My squeak I do not believe is related to the small baffle in the back that is spring loaded. The one used to reduce the exhaust noise. Its coming from somewhere else as it happens every tie from V4-V8 regardless of weather and conditions.

The replaced the exhaust system and it went away for a month or so. I think your issues is the silencer in the back. I will do a test tonight and force that baffle to stay open and see if my squeak is still there. The reason I think they are different is because yours rattles and mine happens only from V4 - V8. The baffle when I messed with it moves freely.

If you look at the very back of the exhaust you will see that little silencer baffle there and you can move it with your hand. I think your issue is that thing is loose. I think my issue is further up near the engine.

I will check tonight.

So yes I believe it's the same baffle it must be causing the squeak to come back up to the cab. I taped my iPhone to the axle and recorded it moving and squeaking. It appears that the baffle is getting stuck in then forced open by the pressure. The only thing to close the baffle is the v4 lack of exhaust pressure. So I can now tell why my truck sucks balls when it changes from v4 to v8. As time goes on I am sure it will get worse and worse.

Glad I had an iPhone lifeproof case cause my case is now drenched in that wax stuff on the frame that comes off.

I am having the same squeak/ping problem when the engine switches from v4 to v8. I took it to the dealer who advised there are similar open cases with the 2014 silverado. They are going to replace the muffler and damper valve. The dealer said they had to order the parts from Michigan which is going to take a week. This is very frustrating especially since my truck has only 800 miles on it.

Has anyone else had this issue after replacing the damper valve and muffler?

I had several rattles in the cab of my 2014 1500 cc 4x4. Loose heater duct on the drivers side under the dash. A plastic panel on the passenger side under the dash. I used foam tape to repair them. Still have a noise in center consul and the right side glove box area I still need to find.

Several people. 3 exhaust systems same issue. But I think the have resolved it on the new systems.

    • This is interesting. My quote tagged here is different from my original quote. After I’m driving them longer. That isn’t me. I don’t talk that way. I definitely wouldn’t express myself that way. Interesting.
    • I have the same running boards on my truck and I do agree they are bulky. I also find myself stepping over them when getting in and out of the truck. Besides providing protection to the rocker panels, they aren't very useful.  I will be replacing them soon with the Amp Powersteps.
    • Monthly payment is only part of the equation. With today's prices and interest rates, I'd look at the total monthly cost: payment, insurance, registration, fuel, maintenance, and expected repairs. A vehicle that fits comfortably into your budget is usually the better choice than stretching for a higher trim. I've also kept my vehicles longer over the past few years. New cars have gotten expensive enough that driving one for 10+ years, while staying on top of maintenance, often ends up being the most cost-effective approach.

    • Thanks newdude!  By the time manual selection is needed, I'm probably too much of a control-freak to depend on the transmission sensing braking to activate automatic downshifting.  I would be anticipating the situation and already be manually downshifting.   This truck replaced a 2004.5 LLY diesel with the Allison 5-speed.  Putting it in T/H made noticeable differences (when the torque converter locked, upshift points, downshift behavior).  On this 2024 gasser with the 10L1000 I haven't been able to detect much, if any, difference.  Ok, I can never tell now when the torque converter locks up.  But I also don't notice differences in shifting.  For downhills, I've probably already manually downshifted by then anyway.  Since it's also more awkward (than the 2004.5) to engage/disengage I don't even bother.  Or maybe it doesn't really matter with just a 3k lb. camper in the bed?   Thanks also for the list of reasons the charging system might select various voltages.  However, what I am seeing doesn't fall into any of those categories.  It very definitely, and very consistently, rises after coasting/braking.  Maybe not immediately, but not very long after coasting/braking.  Very consistently drops voltage when no longer coasting/braking.  It might also be interacting with the camper battery charging (I might disconnect the camper and see if it changes the charging behavior).  I also need to recheck turning on headlights for when I want to force it to charge the camper.   Another JR, in June I converted the camper to LiFePO4.  Since it's not a good idea to try to charge lithiums directly using truck, I installed a Victron Orion XS DC-DC charger (which BTW is AMAZING!!).  Being cheap, I only had to buy that one item (besides the battery, of course) to do the conversion.  The camper OEM 120v battery charger (only 19 years old and works perfectly) and the truck feed the input to the DC-DC charger (not at the same time).  But I didn't want the camper charger feeding back to the truck so I kept the old separator.  I considered replacing the separator with a 30amp diode but that means more work and might add another 1/2 volt drop.  One thing that surprised me was the voltage drop over the long 10awg wire run, so I can only charge smoothly at 8 amps (because the DC-DC charger is completely configurable).  Another reason I don't want an added voltage drop with the diode.  I might also be a little lazy but all this work is being done under the sink with a small cabinet opening.
