Are you going to put them on your truck?

 

Initially I never cared for roof marker lamps, and if I had ordered my truck, I wouldn't have gotten them (even though they were only a $55 option).

 

However, now that I have them, I really love the look of them.  GM has made some pretty darn good looking roof marker lamps IMO.

 

What's looks neat, is when you unlock the truck at night, they flash with the parking lamps, and they really stand out in the parking lot.

I am thinking about it but i am kinda scared to drill into the roof.

How hard is the electrical wiring?  I hate electrical stuff thats why i chose mechanical engineering

I have a 02 HD and on my truck the harness plugs right into the connection by the passenger side, where there is a lid that lifts up..very simple to put in.  No wiring skills required, if, you use the harness.  Which I highly recommend.

 

If, your putting in the lights...I would sugguest going to a Dealer Truck Lot and measuring the spacing on the roof of a truck that already has lights on it.  I did it..and it came out perfect!

Definately get the harness, It makes life much simpler.  I just did this on my truck, and it is a great upgrade.  Also you will notice at night on the interstate that cars tend to get out of your way, as they think that you are in a semi.

I really like the looks of the marker lights. Makes a truck look like a truck.

do you have to remove the headliner?

Yes, but Not completely.  Basically you have to remove the sunvisors, the center overhead console (held in by one screw in very front, then the assebly slides forward), the corner post trim panels, and release the quick locks on the pull handles.  The tabs come out, but not completely off.  then carefully pull down on the front of the liner.  Re-Installation is the reverse of removal.

I paid $160.00 from one of the preferred vendors on this site..Parts Zone On-Line.   However, I just discovered after I installed the lights, that Autobarn.com has them for $60.00..they appear to be the exact same ones, that I paid $160.00 for.  Which, is still cheaper than my Local Dealer wanted.

My $0.02.  I was looking at doing the lights.  Then talked to people I work with and came to this desicion.  Truck now...no leaks.  Add holes, and silicone to seal.  NO Leaks for awhile.  Go through a few freeze thaw cycles, the leaks are back.  And for the look I don't need no #### leaks and the possibility of my F#@King up my new truck.  But that's just me..

Finally installed my cab lights from Pacer Performance (Autobarn).  Used a screw hole sealer, feels like tar.  We'll see how it works for the year.  I sprayed an undercoat type goop on the inside where the wire and screws come through.

 

I purchased the General Motors wiring harness so I could plug the lights into a socket that is built for the cab lights. This socket is located at the passenger-side fuse panel.

 

My signature photo shows the truck with lights.  How does it look in person?  I love them.  Ever since I was a little kid, I have liked cab roof lights.  Must be a male thang.

Congrats on the install. I wonder why it is not an option on the 1500 series trucks when the plug is there?
