before you go yanking the engine out of it, if thats where you're headed and try Marvels Mystery Oil (MMO) or, if it's as bad is it sounds, I'd do the kerosene treatment

some people say hokus pokus, but you have a sludge problem and it's stuck in the oil galleys and valleys and you aren't going to get it out without flushing it. so you can try to use the engine's pump to do it, or you can try to pressurize it and do it that way.

 

the motor isn't junk... if it was running fine before and all you got was "a tick" out of it, the lifter's are probably full of (explicit) and therefore so is probably everything else.

 

If it was me, and it's just a tow vehicle and not your DD, then wtf right?

 

you need something that will essentially breakdown the oil.... if it's what you say it is, I'd empty the oil and fill it to the top like BEYOND full with kero and the worst that happens is you clog it up worse when stuff breaks loose.
