Clicking noise from steering wheel

I have a 2006 Sierra that has slight ticking noise coming from right behind the steering wheel. I have been able to pinpoint the source to the horn wiring spring post. When driving down the highway if I make small steering adjustments I will continually get tick/click noises anytime the steering wheel moves. If I remove the spring horn post, the noise stops. I have replaced horn contact assembly but had no change. Suggestions on what I could try next?

I have not seen inside a column for a long time, and most assuredly not on a 2006 GMC. Do they still have the brass or copper plate in there that contact rubs against as the steering wheel rotates? Use to be the way they handled getting wires on a rotating shaft to not twist up. If they still do it that way, there is/was a grease for it. Never really paid attention to it at the time, but I can 't see how it can be regular or dielectric grease since they are both non-conductive.
