My 6.2 is quicker than my old Duramax

Had a chance to play with my 4wd CCSB Max Tow 6.2 at the drag strip tonight. With horrible conditions (85 degrees and extremely humid) it clicked off a 14.91 @ 93 mph babying it out of the hole. I later tried bringing it up against the brake and launching but it just blew the tires off it. Launching it in 4wd netted a 15.00 @ 91. We got rained out or I would have made more passes. It is bone stock except for a foldacover tonneau and stock size Cooper Zeon LTZ tires.

That beats my old LBZ Duramax's best by 3 tenths. It averaged 9.1 mpg towing my 9900lb enclosed race trailer up and back 130 miles along with the 3 passes. Pretty impressive in my opinion.

The only complaint I have is the damn truck is too smart and the fact that it can tell the trailer is hooked up (sort of) is a pain when it decides to momentarily loose connection. My lights never flicker but the damn chime kept dinging telling me to check the trailer wiring/trailer connected. Annoying as all get out LOL

are the trailer lights and brakes grounded to the trailer frame and relies on the trailer tongue being connected to the truck to be grounded? if so I would rewire the trailer to ground the trailer wires to the ground wire in the 7-way. if it is already wired like that then make sure when you push your 7-way in all the way and the cap of the 7-way receptacle will hold in the plug. I am not trying to come off ass a "know it all" just mentioning this incase maybe you over looked it or something. good luck. and post pics of your set up!

It has it's own ground but you may be on to something, as it seems to happen when the trailer weight shifts during turning braking or if the road has expansion joints. It is a pretty high end trailer but it is 6 years old at this point and I did have an issue with one of the LEDs in the license plate light short out(I just cut it out and run with 2 vs 3) I also wondered if the fact that the trailer has all LED lighting could be freaking it out. It also has it's own battery so there may be some weird ground loop issue too. I haven't looked at it yet other than making sure the plug is clean and tight, but I will do a voltage drop on the ground circuit.

that's a good lookin set up you got there.. also try getting some like 300 grit sand paper and sand the ball down a little esp if you leave your hitch on the truck all the time lost 99% of us do to get some of the surface rust off and the trailer can make a good ground connection to it.

Not too shabby at all.. What do you think the DA was? Also, I've seen where no brake torqueing at all produced the best results for launching. Not sure how you launched it.. It does seem to launch better for mine this way. Haven't brought mine yet but I will when it cools down good and gets below sea level on the DA. :driving:

The ball is clean and greased and stays in the trailer when not in use. I am an auto tech by trade (I own the shop in the background of the picture) so it shouldn't be too big a deal to figure out.

Not sure on the DA I was by myself running my car in a heads up class and decided to run the truck in the street class so i never paid much attention to my weather station. It is a cheepo and doesn't do DA anyway. I know my Nova ran a tenth and a half slower than it did the week before when we were at about 2600' Our track is at 1000' elevation so even on a great day the best I have ever seen is about 500' LOL

    • This is a really late reply but I just found this thread. They won't sell the hinges. I've gone 7 rounds with them. Their solution is to buy a new cover. I'm about to buy a new cover and it won't be a Bakflip. It also won't be from realtruck.com.
    • Yes, and also pulling heavy trailers or a large camper up steep grades as well as descending grades such as the more rustic off road camping locations and using engine braking with that low gearing as well as soft ground can just suck the power . I realize pickups these days tend to have an over all lower first gear ratio compared to automatic transmission pickups from years back so that has helped a lot in its ability in high range but there comes a point if in four wheel drive the torque runs out at the wheels, certainly with a gas engine. They don't put two speed transfer cases on pickups for a cool factor, they have a function if one needs that massive torque to the wheels that high range can't deliver.
    • Notes 7/18/2026   3,400 miles on this batch of Mobil 1 Euro 5W40 since the GDI pump replacement. Alcohol runs very clean when ring seal is tight and the sump isn't getting hosed with fuel. Checked oil level at fill up today as is my practice and grabbed a white Kleenex to look at the color. What color?  I was going to change it but.....
    • 4 low is really nice on steep boat ramps.
    • Interesting, I suspect I would have fueled up in Lee Vining as the day prior I would have filled up either in Laughlin or near there and maybe again before I entered Death Valley and once out the other side late that evening as I kept on driving into the night up near Lee Vining. Next morning I most likely fueled up in LV before heading over Tioga Pass into ( as I refer to it as "Yose .... Mite" 😁 ). And again that was 19 years ago but the price then must not have jumped out at me like the 5 bill a gallon theme of nutty cult hippy country Big Sir or head so far up their rear Aspen. I'd be curious to know where the highest prices are in the lower 48, I probably would not be far off to guess somewhere in Cali forn ie. Coldfoot and Prudhoe bay may have those prices beat but that is a whole other world up there and when prices are more normal elsewhere that is about what they can be up there I believe in no mans land. Anyway interesting that the 395 corridor is hosing people and the thing is, its tourist season and its not like there are a lot of competition options when driving up that highway from what I could see. Yup, big ole Boaterhomes and various other RV's ahead and behind me at the Yosemite entrance gate and they have to get their fuel somewhere.
