Hearing a thud coming from the front left suspension on my 2010 z71 when driving on rough road or hitting small bumps heard it could be anything from shock bearing or tie rod.

Jack up the front of the truck on the side that the noise comes from by (by the frame, not under suspension) and shake the tire back and forth at 12&6 and 9&3 o'clock. Listen for noises, feel for loose components. You could also take a large rubber mallet an beat on components individually to check for movement.

You're right, it could be anything. Sway bar, busing, steering component, shock, bearing, etc.
