I have a 2004 silverado that smokes at start up then goes away what PVC valve should check to see if it's bad?

Your truck has a fixed orifice, no replacement necessary. Sounds like your valve seals/guides may be shot.

Mileage?

158000 miles. that's what I was thinking but I read a post on for the same issue and some of the replies was to check the PVC valve that's why I asked. Is there a way service center can check that without opening the motor up and do you know what a valve/ seals replacement cost?

thanks for your reply

every shops labour rate is different per hour ,,,,valve covers come off and plugs come out ,,,,rockers are removed after shop air is put in plug holes ,,,springs are then removed and seals replaced ,,

id GUESS it would come to 3 hours ISH plus parts

which would be better to take it to dealer service or a car care center type or does it matter?

Two other thoughts.... what color is the smoke and are you losing any coolant?

Worn valve guides or worn valve seals.......could try some Lucas Oil Treatment. Also try replacing valve seals.
