Help! Rough country lift kit problem

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I recently finished installing my rough country 6inch non torsion drop lift kit on my 2000 GMC Sierra 1500 4WD. I just noticed that the back end is not sitting level, with the driver side lower than the passenger side (This can be seen when looking at the top of the tailgate). I have a feeling I just need to tighten the u-bolts a little more on the passenger side, what do you guys think? Picture: http://postimg.org/image/oy4glhm7l/

another problem, is after the install I noticed my wheels have positive camber on both sides. Will a wheel alignment fix this?? I've got one scheduled for tomorrow morning. Picture: http://postimg.org/image/8ee1ailyb/

Thanks for the help!

First off. Try parking it on a level surface, then see how different the two sides are. It looks like you have one wheel on a concrete slab and the other on gravel....not even at all.

But what you describe is typical "Chevy lean." The truck gonna lean to the driver side because the fuel tank is more on that side. 1/2" to 1" is acceptable. Anything more then you might have an issue. Check to make sure both lift blocks you installed are the same height.

Second, an alignment will fix the camber.

The surface was fairly level, but could have been better (Thats not a concrete slab, its a grey mat). I moved it to a surface that looked perfectly level, and the lean seemed to have disappeared (for the most part). I'm very sorry for the dumb questions, but it was my first lift kit install and I'm just terribly paranoid that I may have messed up somewhere along the installation. Thanks for the info on the camber too, that is a major relief!

Something else I noticed is that when I make a complete stop, and then begin to accelerate I hear a squeak near the back end. This was not happening before the lift kit. Is this a fluid issue? or something more serious? And thanks for going easy on me, I don't deserve it for such a silly first post :P

Could be a u-joint going bad. Exacerbated by the new driveline angle.

People have said similar things in other threads, so I think I'll have to look into that. Thanks alot for your help! +1

If possible get spicer u-joints in there. they have zerks that you can grease overtime. Good stuff

The first part of the alignment is setting the front ride height, which directly affects the rear ride height. I wouldn't worry about the rear until you've done the front. (If one torsion bar is cranked up, it will drop the opposite rear corner).
