Automatic Door Locks

Recommended Posts

I have my automatic door locks turned off simply so I don't get locked out of the vehicle.

I always get out of the truck and then hit the fob twice to lock the doors and set the alarm.

Sometimes, as I am getting out of the truck I hear the door chime and I close the door, the doors lock and the horn honks without me even touching my fob.

It worries me because what if I get out of the truck and leave the keys in the ignition and this happens? I guess I should put Onstar on my speed dial!

What would cause this? It happens once maybe every couple of months.

Could it be I am inadvertently hitting a button on my door as I am getting out?

I am not sure, but my chime will make noise even when there is not a problem once in a while. BTW, if you leave your keys in the ignition or started and try to lock the door it unlocks itself when the door shuts. At least on my 2013.

Hey flyboyron,

Have your referenced the owner's manual regarding this concern? Although you've turned off the automatic locking feature, perhaps you still have the delay door lock feature on. Here's more on this from page 3-79.

"When locking the doors with the power door lock switch and a door is open, this feature will delay locking the doors until five seconds after the last door is closed. You will hear three chimes to signal that the delayed locking feature is in use. The key must be out of the ignition for this feature to work. You can temporarily override delayed locking by pressing the power door lock switch twice or the lock button on the RKE transmitter twice."

Hopefully this helps. Please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns. I'm glad to assist any way I can.

Sincerely,

Eddie A.

Thanks Eddie,

I was unaware that there was a delay door lock feature.

It seems to me maybe on my way out of the truck sometimes I may hit the lock button and activate this feature.

I am going to try it and see it work.

I will also try the option NBSGMC mentioned about locking the keys in the truck. I guess I should know all the in's and out's of the ways the doors lock.

Thanks again.

My 2015 Yukon Denali not only locks all the doors when the truck is put into gear put also locks all the door a few seconds after the door is shut with the engine off. The first condition is very dangerous and the second is just maddening. In my travels as a professional driver I have extracted 4 unconscious passengers from crashed vehicles that were locked in their vehicles. I now carry a special hammer for the purpose of breaking side windows. I have made a formal complaint to the National Highway Administration, Consumer Reports and of course GM. This is my fourth Denali and most of them have the automatic locking feature set as the default but all of them; the last being a 2009, I was able to disable this feature either myself or with the scanner. If I had known that this feature can not be disabled I would have never purchased this truck or any other GM product. I suggest that owners that agree with my position also write various agencies making this issue known.

I know that is true, the other side of that story is that if your stopped at a stop light, someone can't just walk up and open your door and hijack your car.

It seems that there are options on the truck to set the door locks to each driver's needs. At least now we have the option to make our own decision.

I'm sorry I don't understand your point. The problem is that the truck does NOT have the option of not having the doors continually lock themselves. If it had the option I would have no reason to make my post. I agree that under certain conditions I want my door to be locked, but I want to make that choice not the truck.

There is nothing "Dangerous" about it at all. It is way safer than getting carjacked easier. I am a first responder. Glass breaking is no big deal.
