2008 Sierra 1500 5.3 Lifter Failure. What Would You Do?

The blackbear tune is required after you replace the cam, which permits you to replace the lifters (with non-collapsing lifters), the pushrods, and the rockerarms because, the computer is not going to like the different vacuum, the missing de-activation equipment, etc. so all of that has to be deleted out.

I agree, the rattling noise is the busted lifter floating around.

Thanks for the clarification! That makes a lot more sense. I will post an update once I figure this out with the dealer.

Should I be as worried about cylinder damage as my mechanic was? Since I have heard the noise for about 20k miles, he was basically saying the block might be toast. He recommended I push them to replace the entire engine. Thoughts?
