I live in New Hampshire and am currently running 0-30.  This is my first interval with it and it appears that it using some.  I am keeping an eye on it.

 

Will probably switch to 10-30 at the next change.

I used 10-30 when I had my 5.3, but used 5-30 in the coldest part of winter. I'm not sure if it made much difference though. I also had the tick, but never had a problem to 65K when I traded it.

The manual sez that 5W - 30 is recommended, 10W - 30 if that isn't available.  It also sez "Do not use SAE 10 - 40, 20W - 50 or any other viscosity grade oil".  Page 5-20 in my 03 Silverado manual.

I believe that my 2000 manual states that if in a cold climate that 0-30 is recommended.

I'm not sure if I would use 20w-50 in a 5.3 even if it was used in Death Valley.  Why would anyone second guess the factory recommendation..... 5w 30?
