2014 Silverado towing capacity

I have a 2014 Silverado double cab z71 with the 5.3 with 3.42 gears. According to the manual I should be able to pull 9600 pounds. The dealer and the window sticker both said it's only rated to 7100 pounds. This is quite a big difference. I plan to get an older 20 something foot camper within the next year. I believe the 2015s had new regulations on towing, but I am curious as why I am getting 2 different ratings with a 2500 pound difference.

I have had great luck using the Tekonsha P3. Works for both electronic and hydraulic brakes. Also has several presets for different size trailers.

The P3 is nice. I have 2 saved in it. One for my large travel trailer and one for the horse trailer. Real easy to swith trailers with it

I will checkout the p3, thank you. Any thoughts on the difference in tow ratings? I want to keep the dry weight of the trailer I buy around 6,000 pounds or less. So I shouldn't have an issueffect either way.

You should be able to contact a customer service rep and they can look up by VIN to confirm. I'm not sure about the 2014's but the manuals of the previous gens like my 2012 reference the requirement of HD Cooling Package to have the high towing limit.
