4LO NOT WORKING

Recommended Posts

Okay first off I can NOT get 4 low. I can hear the actuator and anything else try to engaged but sounds like a thud then disengage and goes to 2wd or setting before. (Like something is block motor to engage the gear.)

2nd problem: for the past month while driving highway or any speed the truck will disengage 2wd and freewheeling to a stop. No noises just a thud then revving of engine is no help. (LIKE WHEN IN NEUTRAL)

Also I can easily change to

4 AUTO THEN TO 2wd AND get back on the road.

Thabks for your help as its sad looking at my truck sitting and not able to drive because of annoying disengagement.

Year, make, model? Also how are you going about shifting into 4lo? You should be in neutral (transmission) and coasting at about 3-5mph. As for your second problem, have you checked fluid levels and conditions (i.e. transmission, transfer case)?

2005 Chevrolet Silverado, I shift into 4lo stopped, brakes applied, and also how to get tc into neutral? The red light never lits but only on startup of key first in IGNITION. Also haven't checked fluids but will do asap. I dont have a problem with any other shift like 4hi or auto. So I think conditions are working.

Almost guarantee that it's the transfer case motor, but I'd scan it to be sure.

Can you get me a pic of what it looks like? Because I know there is a

:Encoder

:Motor

:Encoder sensor

:ACTUATOR

ETC I cant get the difference

Also how do I get to the automatic Transfer case to relearn? Mine have the maxidas ds708 and go into powertrain but nothing says about TC

Your doing it wrong!!!, slightly moving , transmission in neutral the hit 4lo

Scan the tccm

Uhhh i always stop completely then put in neutral then select 4 low, is that bad? [emoji32]

yes ,it has to be stress free, moving helps the shift

I scanned transfer case control module and no pending or history codes were stored. Also I can make the neutral light work with the scanner via special functions

Ended up doing the whole encoder motor on mine... it's like $160 I think... But the 2hi issue means it is almost certainly that, IIRC.

It could be several things. Have you tried to shift it as we have said, trans in neutral, rolling a few mph and then hit the button for 4lo? If you scanner didn't pick up any codes you may have to take to a dealer to have it scanned by the tech2 to pick up possible codes.

Yeah I followed y'alls advice and it does the same thing such as it tries to engage and make a clunk then the 4lo blinks on switch and cancel and back to 4hi. Also I go into 4wd by descending order..2hi then 4hi then 4lo.. I will try to record a video of the noises and process then post to my photobucket to view. I already cleaned the ground point under driver's door on frame. I assume my scanner works and is able to control the atc because I try try to engage the 4wd system and it does the same via the scanner.
