Help!

Alrighty so my 2005 4x4 z71 will shift out of gear and into NEUTRAL. At highway speeds or any general speed my truck will act like it lost the tranny but doesn't. I can then pull over and switch to 4auto or 4hand then back to 2hi and continue on then a few moments or minutes later it will do it again. It has the NP8 transfer case . If anyone has had this problem and fixed or can point me into any direction please do so. Thanks

First thing is to check fluid levels and condition in the transmission and transfer case. Second thing, if fluids are good I recommend having a shop/dealer take a look as I'm not sure what all could be wrong.

You have a 246 transfer case, same as mine. I had this exact issue, and it ended up being the encoder motor on the case. Yours could very well be the same. If you take it to a shop they'll be able to tell you for sure. I'd recommend this route because a good shop will have it fixed in a few hours, and you should be able to have it back the same day.

Alright Im going to local slavage yard nd buy one with low miles and if it works then I'll return in 24hours and buy a new one from oreillys . Thanks

Alright went ahead and bought brand new from rockauto for 157 total and voila it worked awesome I no have 4 low and no more 2wd disengagement
