Exhaust Quetion

So Truck Performance is having a pretty good sale on Flowmaster mufflers right now, plus free shipping on the 40 series original.  And I was thinking about getting the 3 inch inlet/dual 2.5 inch outlet and then having the pipes just curve and face downward right after the muffler.  I know it's gonna be loud, but anyone think it's too loud to handle??  I also have a concern with the fumes.  My buddy told me that some guy he knew got sick cause he had his exhaust like that and the fumes got in his truck.  Personally, I don't see how that could happen unless he was parked with his truck running.  Thanks in advance.

I think it would be loud, and it would have all kinds of resonation in the cab.  Also it would not pass State Inspection where I live (your laws may be different).

Do state's have noise limitations when it comes to emissions testing?

So, would it be a bad idea then to put the turndowns right after the muffler?

There most likely is noise limitations, but the 40 series would be OK.

The reason it would not pass here is because the exhaust dumps out under the truck.

I have a 40 series on right now.  It used to be routed out the rear, but the chrome tips started to rust pretty bad, so I cut them off right after it goes over and down from the rear axle.  It is pretty loud.  More now than when I got the muffler in the summer of 2000.  I think it's rusted out some of the baffles in there because I can hear it rattling sometimes.  Anyway, it's fairly loud in the cab at highway speeds.  It does sound good, but gets annoying having to talk louder than normal when going down the road.

I have a 70 series on the way from Y2K Silverado.  :thumb:

I may not get to get it on soon, but I'm looking forward to it.  :D

I think I might have them routed out each side, behind the rear tires.
