How do you take the wiper arms off?

Hey everybody, I need to take my wiper arms off for two reasons.  One, because the arms are all chipped up and need re-painting, and two, because the plastic trim piece or whatever between the hood and the windshield is cracked.  I'm going to try painting both the wipers and that trim piece silver to match my truck.  ;)  If anyone can tell me how to get the darn things off it sure would be appreicated!    :thumb:

Not sure if yours is different from mine but,  remove the bolt that holds down the arm then with your palm push down just after the hinge then pull up with your fingers right around where the bolt goes.  Somethimes they are on there pretty tight and its difficult to get them off.

Hope thats helps, It is difficult to describe.

I'm not sure about the 95, but my 92's wipers come off pretty easily.

Explaining this will be tricky, but I'll try.

First, pull them out from the window. (like you do when you clean it.)

There should be little tabs sticking out around the base of the wiper arm. Pull these -there is one on each arm- away from the wiper arm. (Away from the shaft.) You may have to use a pair of pliers to pull the tab...They can be kinda sticky.

At this point, you should be able to just pull the wiper arm straight off the shaft.

If you are going to be removing the cowl, there are about 6 or seven bolts that you have to remove, most of which have to be done with a short screwdriver because of the angle of the hood. You also will have to unplug the washer fluid hose before you pull it off completely.

Hope this helped a little.

Well, I will look tomorrow, but chances are I won't figure it out.  I'm frickin stoopid when it comes to this stuff.  :jester:  Thanks for the help so far, any more suggestions/comments are welcome.

I have a 95 Sierra and mine come off just as Wingnut described.  If you use a pair of needle nose I think it works smoother ( been a while since I did it ).  They come off so easily.  Good idea on painting them.  I hung them from my basketball goal net with string and bungy cords.  Super fast and easy way to make your truck look a little better. :chevy:

I figured out how to get them off, I feel like a retard after I saw how easily they come off.  You just pull that little clip and they pop right off.  Duh!  :smash::D  Good idea on hanging them to paint.  I haven't done them yet, but I did on my car and it was a pain trying to let one side dry before doing the next.  I think the silver to match the truck will be hella smooth.  Laters for now until I need somme other stoopid question.  lol
