I'm not by any means trying to be $hity but from experience you would be better off buying a new ring and pinion set. I have been setting up ring and pinion gears for 20+ years and you will never get them right and to NOT make noise after they have set a wear pattern in another axle assembly but if you are ok with howling gears that's something you will have to deal with.

You can get away with using a used gear set with less than 500-800 miles on them to break-in a new wear pattern. A new set is around $200 bucks and get rid off the G80 and go with a Detroit Torsen unit. JMO of course!

Not to highjack this thread, but have you been able to find options for the 2014+ Silverado to go to 4.88's?

Side note, you can have my 3.42's if i can find 4.88's!

Thank you for that information, I will be on the phone today!

Do you have a personal opinion on the better company? I have always used G2 or Ford Performance when I was on the dark side...lol

between the two Motive is a pretty good set. Be sure you break them in properly with light acceleration and coasting, 20-30 min drives and allow full cool down.

If not set up properly as per manufacture specs they will all whine. Be sure to follow their set up procedures. I have seen ALL manufactures gears whine when not set up properly and without a nice break-in period. If your guy uses an impact on diff repairs please find someone else to set your gears up.

RT Great advise!!!!! Now here in NJ I have to find someone to make the swap out. I have gotten $2500 price quotes parts & labor that`s just insane. I`ll just have to push the pedal a little harder that`s all..
