Black truck scratch repair

There are plenty of "scratch repair" and such waxes and polishes out there. Anyone tried and had good results on black?

Can you feel the scratches if you run your fingernail edge across the scratches? If so generally speaking there is no way to get rid of them without repainting those panels.

I do this for a living, black is a color I've had some success 'filling' the scratch with color then clear coat until the scratch is filled, then wet sanding it down level with the surrounding paint then buffing and polishing to get the shine back. A nice clean straight scratch works best, jagged scratches are much harder. Other dark colors sometimes work, light colors rarely work, black is the best it seems.

There are a lot of variables in whether or not this works but it is possible. Also depends a lot on where the scratches are at on the truck, scratches in the middle of the hood or middle of a door are harder to hide than scratches down low that aren't as visible.

The waxes and polishes are just temporary fixes at best and if you can feel the scratch like mentioned above they won't work.

Wish I could help more. You might ask your dealer if they have a competent 'Touchup guy' that works on their used vehicle inventory fixing this type of damage, most dealers have at least one but beware there are lots of hacks that do this work too and could do more harm than good.

Good luck.
