2014 Exterior door handle cover removal???

Does anyone know if you can remove the covers from the black frame that is on the backside of each handle so the covers can be painted?

It will come apart at the edges but im not sure if it comes all the way off and I don't want to take the chance on breaking or cracking them.

I don't think they can as GM sells the "Chrome Handles Upgrade" as the whole piece. If they came apart, I'm sure GM would only sell the outer shell cover and charge the same price.
