Ride Height -- Stock

Ive been wondering this too.  My '17 3500 sits high enough to fit 295/70/18 (34.5x12) with no lift or level on stock wheels..  That surprised me.  I see guys running lifts in order to fit 33x12.5.  There's got to be an explanation.  Either mine sits taller than other (1500?) or people are spending money unnecessarily.

GM parts sites list about 20 different part numbers for front springs for the same year/spec truck, nobody can tell me what the differences are, only that they need a VIN to provide the right part #

Does your truck take bumps well or are you in the bouncy, crashy, harsh club? Std shocks or upgraded?

I just saw your earlier post, std shocks. Would like to hear your opinion on ride quality, if you are happy with it I would like to ask for your VIN to see which spring part number comes up for your truck as I may take the chance on changing springs when I install some new shocks.

Sure man.  Here's my VIN: 1GC4KZCG8HF164985.  Let me know what turns up.  I dont mean to sound like a broken record, but I just truly dont understand the choice to lift 4.5" to fit 305/55/20. Those tire would fit on my truck with plenty of clearance.  That is, unless my stock springs are the reason I clear 34.5x 12. Maybe my 295/70/18 wouldnt fit most stock rigs.  I'm  not meaning this to be at all insulting.  I truly dont understand.  Even the jump to 35x12.5 only gives an extra 1/2" of width and 1/2" of height.  

 

As for ride quality, I have no complaints so far.  When hard cornering, you can feel the lugs biting in.  That probably explains why these MTZ P3 handle thick snow and even some ice like I was on dry pavement. But going straight or light turns is like stock.  A bit more road noise from the tread.  But no unpleasant mannerisms yet

Just noticed the 3500 in your earlier message, different beast altogether with torsion bar front end I think & they all sit higher than the normal non lifted 1500s I believe.
