BlackBear Tune ideas...

Recommended Posts

Hey everybody, thanks for having me here. I just got a 2014 Express 2500 w 4.8, nice blue color with sliding side door, pretty sweet.

Unfortunately though testing one out and actually owning one, navigating all the steep hills you get to know all its little quirks and i gotta say im disappointed with this engine. I am hauling a motorcycle and gear, roughly <1k lbs, so i didnt feel i needed the 6.0

Its has no torque under 2500 rpms, so i cannot use 6th gear much on the highway, and it has a hard time making it up the hills.

I really am a picky person and i need to be happy with what i have. Otherwise i cant see in spending the money on other upgrades for it if im not truly happy.

Now, on this tuning service i have not read 1 bad review. Everybody with 4.8, 5.3, 6.0 says its the best upgrade and its night and day, all that jazz. I understand this. But is there any chance the thing will still make me unhappy because simply put its still just a small displacement engine in a full size truck? The idea here really was to get something that i will have for 20 years and put 400k miles on.

Anybody in the same boat as me who can chime in?

I did a Black Bear tune 3+ years ago on my 03 with 5.3 in a 2500 with 6-lugs.

I deliver bottled water so I travel with the extremes of way over weight to empty,

He was in my part of the country and was doing real-time live tuning as I was driving and he was plugged into the 'puter.

I wasn't looking for performance.

He lowered the RPM as to the point where the fuel injectors stay off longer at closed throttle. He also lowered the trans shifts points at part throttle. He increased the trans line pressure a bit.

Can I say I noticed any real world difference? Not sure.

Can I say I noticed any mental good feelings differences? Yes.

He also mentioned that I had a lower intake leak, based on his 'puter readings. He was right.

Would I do it again? Yes.

Have I ever read/heard a negative comment about him? Never.
