2014 Sonic - Can the DRLs be flashed off?

I know this isn't a truck question, but I need the perspective of a GM tech.

 

I have a 2014 Sonic RS and I want to permanently disable the DRLs in the BCM. Can the BCM be flashed with the DRLs set to off?

I doubt they would even attempt this as it is a safety feature

Yes, but they aren't required in the US. I'm doing an LED projector retrofit and the pulse-width modulated DRLs will kill the LEDs.

GM has tried a couple of times to get them mandated in the US. GM started back in 1990 implementing DRL is all cars simply to reduce costs of having multiple configurations due to country being marketed. Because of this, GM has made it difficult to disable to prevent people from disabling them in locations where they are required.

Can you use the "pulse-width modulated DRLs" to signal a relay to turn on, and use the relay's switched circuit to feed your LEDs? I am assuming that they are using a pulsed power to reduce intensity of the daytime running lights, and if so, it is likely at such a high frequency that the relay will not be able to turn off long enough to actually break the output circuit.

I could put a capacitor on the low beam harness to level out the voltage, but I'd rather not have the DRLs on at all. I was planning on doing halos for DRLs.
