Hi everyone, I'm Chris from Mesa Arizona. My son and I bought a 2005 GMC Sierra 1500 short bed regular cab 4.8 liter base truck almost 2 years ago. We purchased it as a Father/Son project and his daily driver once he turned 16 last July. The truck was sound mechanically but was lacking in upgrades and aesthetics so in the first year we added power windows, locks and mirrors, new overhead console with HomeLink, insulated and sound deadened the cab, new carpet new stereo, amp, sub and speakers, new headliner, changed the dash and seat color, new Gibson side exit exhaust, Lowered by 2"front/4" rear and new 20" wheels and tires. We were ready for bodywork and paint when he had an accident which broke the left rear axel, damaging the housing beyond our ability to repair it and totaled the bed. We replaced the bed and axel with used parts from a local salvage yard. Our truck came with drums on the rear but we replaced it with a 2002 Chevy axel with discs. Now finally to my question: The rear brakes seem to drag a little because of the difference in line pressure required for drums, so should I also replace the disc/drum master cylinder with a disc/disc master cylinder? Can someone tell me if the JC3 disc/disc master will bolt up to my hydro booster? If not does someone know which master might. I've been told that I could put a proportioning valve inline after the ABS modulator but I don't have and I'm not good at flaring the lines so I prefer not doing that. Can anyone help??

I would change out the master cylinder for a disc/disc. Not sure but I would say it is set up for the rear disc and take care of the issues you are having.

Hopefully someone else will chime in.

Thanks guys, I'm headed to the salvage yard this weekend to see what, if anything matches up to my existing. Hopefully the JC3 master from a 1500 4x4 extended cab will work. I'll keep you updated and should have a few pics to post.
