Weird noise coming from engine

I just parked my truck this morning and after I shut it off I got out and a weird noise started coming from under the hood. So I popped the hood and it's coming from the passenger side of the motor toward the front of the engine. It sound like a screeching or whining almost like an alarm with an almost dead battery. Has anyone had this problem? Thanks for any help in advance

Could be some kind of purge valve being activated after the engine is shut off.

I've never noticed it before today and It went on for 5 mins till I just walked away. Also it's the 5.3

I currently work for a Chevy dealership in the Northeast as a sales manager. I purchased a 2015 Rally 2. I noticed the other day the same noise. My service department has looked at it twice... it is the vacuum pump for the brakes. GM released a bulletin about them being loud. They will not replace the part as of yet but they are aware of it. Mine sounds like a humming noise. Not sure if it's your same issue but I hope this information helps.

GM sucks now don't they...from the welfare bailout to the quality of their products and brand name being driven into the ground. I bought a GM crate engine 15k on motor...spun bearings...God I love GM....

They have actually really stepped up their game with quality. The issue is they produce so many of them that there are bound to be issues. I have no complaints with my truck and we sell 5+ Silverados a day. Not one has come back with a complaint.

They don't have much of a choice to pull up their diapers...it's that or be run over by imports or Ford or Chrysler...

I have a similar noise on my 6.2L. Is the noise on your passenger side? I originally thought it was alternator charging noise?

That's the noise. Mine can be heard from either side but it's dominate on the passenger side. GM is aware of it and they have a service bulletin out. I can keep you posted if the come up with a fix.

Agreed. They did nail it with the new Silverado though. We sell them like crazy!

There are no issues with it malfunctioning, it's just noise. I'm all over it here!

Good to hear keep us posted. My wife thinks I'm crazy that I can pick up on these noises! Overall I love my truck so not the end of the world. Curious how they will fix it.

I will. I love my truck too and thought I was being paranoid when I first heard the noise. Funny how we pick up on things.
