Mileage vs. Hours

I went to a near by Chevy dealer and was looking at used Z71s.  They only had two, the first one I checked had 35k miles and just over 1000 hours.  The second had 22k miles and had 2200 hours.  I know driving style can effect this but could this seems a little strange.  Could there possibly be a problem with one of these trucks?

:werd: Looks like the truck that has 22,000 miles and 2200 hours sat around and idled alot.  If you do the math, the truck with 35miles ran an average of 35mph, while the truck with 22k miles ran an average of 10mph.  I wouldn't be too worried about the hours, except that if the truck idled a lot hopefully the person that owned it increased the maintence schedule.  Just keep in mind that the truck with 22k miles will still have a factory warranty (assuming it is not over 3 years old).

My truck has low miles and higher hours...  I drive in town alot.

However, the change oil light comes on earlier for me.  The last time it came on I had about 2500 miles on it.  I wouldn't be afraid of the lower milage truck, just to get the remainder of the warranty.  Also there would be less wear and tear on all the rolling components.  (assuming the truck didn't spend it's life bouncing around in strip mines... )

I checked mine out last night - I bought it brand new.  It has 32,600 miles on it and 951 hours.  A good majority of the miles are highway miles.  Maybe you can use this as a reference.

How do you check the Hours of service?

On 1999-2002 models, with the engine off, press and hold the odometer reset button.

I would buy the one with low hours. Several years back I bought a '91 chev. 4x4 that had 70k miles. I thought that would be low enough not to give me problems but I found out later it had been owned by a ranch. The low miles were because it lived on the ranch but it still looked very good. Anyway everything from the seat to the door hinges started giving me problems. If it has low hours it is more highway miles which means less sitting in it, less opening doors, using the brakes, turning it on and off etc., etc. I just checked mine and came up with 12,600 miles, 485 hours. I think mine is probably at least 2/3 city driving.
