99 GMC sierra 5.3 won't run

I have a 99 GMC sierra 5.3 I bought used 5 or 6 months ago. It ran fine until a week ago & just died on me coming home from work. It will crank up but& run until you go to give it gas & then it goes to spitting & sputtering & dies after about 25 to 30 seconds. It'll crank right back up but do the same thing over & over. Anybody have any ideas what it could be?

Check fuel pressure. If it was mine, I would take a look at the fuel filter and if it did not look new, I would replace it. If the filter is in fact plugged, you can count on having to replace the fuel pump soon as well. Running the pump through a plugged filter does not it any good.
