Garage sale for 5 bucks, are these any good? It has a long metal "needle" attached to the head, my guess is the flex from the head moves the needle to get the reading near t he handle on the measurement part. Looks like its never been used, so no big deal if its no good!

It's a whole lot better than nothing.  If you will be torquing heads and bearing caps then you should spring for a good one.  When you operate the needle type, be sure the handle stays only on its pivot point while torquing.

goes to 150 ft-lbs, but one q, how do you know when its torqued specifically? I had it at 60, and slowly pulled and got it to 100, then I back off, and when I started again, it turned the bolt at 70. but I think it wasn't on the blot right the second time, which  I think I'm being told will make it read wrong.
