Gas gauge gone haywire

Friend suggested using Seafoam to clean fuel line. Tried a few cans, but no change in problem. Do you know if there is a sensor or float or what that must be only working part time? Not looking forward to an expensive repair and may live with part time gauge unless it's an easy fix. Thoughts?

I believe the gauge is tied in with your fuel pump assembly. How many miles on your truck? Has the fuel pump ever been replaced?

Mine (as well as a lot of other people) had their fuel pumps go out around this mileage. Just FYI. I'd say go ahead and buy a new pump just to keep on hand. Then, when/if it does fail, you either have to drop the tank, or lift off the bed.

Discussed with my garage and they guy suggested that the AC/Delco or OEM version was not recommended. Do you agree that I should go with an aftermarket version of the fuel pump assembly?

Delphi or ACDelco is all I would use. Before dropping major $$, put a large size can of Techron in a full tank and drive it until nearly empty. Techron has been specially indicated for removing sulfur on fuel gauge sending units.
