is there any way to get some info on my 1996?

ext cab, 5 speed v8. short bed.

The psi of the steel for the frame, differences between 1/2, 3/4 and 1 ton?

I have a manual tranny half ton, it is proving to be bit more robust than everything on the same model line that cracked in half and died 10 years ago..

this one munched on all the cross sills of the little six foot bed, and I bought a 1/8th rectangle tube 2x3 to replace the front cross sill..

well, it weighs 25 pounds for the 5 foot something run, very strong piece. I am wondering if I am going to snap the frame like a candy cane first twisting road event or what?

I found the old "k" series has 39000 psi... 1/2-3/4 and 1 ton, they all got the wimpy psi. That is ridiculous. Can someone tell me if the 1996 is 39k psi steel?

If so I'll halt the cross sill project and make some out of sheet metal, just to be sure to leave the rails strength as is.

I also got a hint by searching for "custom bed gmc" in google. it skips from the late 60s, to modern 1 ton diesels.. nothing inbetween.
